Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour
Tour Overview
If you want the best of both worlds, and want to see both the cultural and historic attractions of the most famous of Morocco’s imperial cities and the highlights of the Desert, this three-day Marrakech to fes desert tour can be tailored to a four-day Marrakech to fes desert tour if you have a little more time. From Marrakech, you will cross the Atlas Mountains and make your way to the desert, then make the long drive back northwards to Fes.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1 : Marrakech – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley ( 7 H Drive )
Your tour will usually begin at 7.30 am with pick up from your Marrakech accommodation.
You will travel with us up and over the High Altas Mountains on the Tizi Ntichka Pass, enjoying breathtaking views and stops for refreshment and photographs along the way. We will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, where a number of famous movies have been filmed before continuing on to Ouarzazate, where you can enjoy lunch at leisure. After lunch, we will drive to the large oasis of Skoura, where you can see Amridil, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in the country. From there we will continue on to Kalaa Mgrouna via the beautiful Valley of the Roses. Finally, you will reach your accommodation for the first night – a boutique guest house in the Dades Valley, where you will enjoy some dinner before retiring for a good night's sleep.Day 2 : Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Dunes ( 4 H Drive )
After breakfast, you will be driven along the Route of 1001 Kasbahs, enjoying the amazing scenery and the remains of some interesting fortified villages as we make our way to Tinghir Oasis. These places hosted those on caravan trails until the beginning of the 20th Century.
Upon arrival in Tinghir, which was a French-occupied military outpost, you will have the opportunity to see local farmers tending their cattle as you walk to the magnificent Toudra Gorges.
You will then enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local cafe here before we continue to Rissani.
Rissani is one of the holiest towns in Morocco. The ruling dynasty of the country, 'The Alaouites' originated here, and the founder is buried in the local area. Rissani is well-known for its part as the beginning of the historic paths for caravans crossing the Sahara desert.. They stretched from here all the way to Tombouctou.
Mid-afternoon, we will cross a rocky, lunar landscape as we make our way to Merzouga.
Experience a unique journey on the back of a camel, taking you across the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy the breathtaking sunset as we make our way back to the desert camp.
In camp, you will enjoy a traditional dinner and entertainment from local nomads before enjoying a restful night under the stars.
Day 3 : Merzouga – Midelt – Ifran – Fes ( 8 H Drive )
We will depart early to marvel at the stunning sunrise while on the back of a camel traversing the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes. Upon completion, we will arrive at the camp operator's rustic retreat in Merzouga where you can enjoy breakfast and take a shower. (If you upgrade to the luxury option, breakfast will be served at camp and showers will be available at your tent.)
You will meet up with your driver/guide and set off on a long but scenic drive to Fes, crossing the Ziz Valley through Errachidia (the capital of this Tafilalt region).
Continuing on, you will make your way to Midelt, where you will have lunch at leisure.
We will continue our journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains, taking in the sights of its lush cedar forests. If we are lucky, we may come across some Barbary apes while we are travelling, and perhaps stop to get some pictures), and through the Berber Towns of Imouzzar and Ifran – both famous with Moroccans for offering skiing and other snow sports during winter.
Finally, you will arrive in Fes late in the afternoon and will be dropped off at your hotel or riad.

Things To Remember
- Drive time is rather extensive on a three day trip. Make sure that you understand the distances involved. If you would rather enjoy a more leisurely experience, this tour can be tailored to be a four day adventure if your would prefer.
- The price for the Marrakech to Fez Desert tour will depend on how many passengers there are in your party.
- Pick up times can be flexible during spring and summer, though we do recommend starting early.
- Local guides and entrance fees (if applicable) are NOT included. You pay for these directly to the suppliers.
- Sunglasses, hats, and sensible footwear would all be a good idea for this safari.
